Scottish Television, which began broadcasting in 1957, produces a wide range of programs including news, sport, religion, arts, entertainment and drama, including the detective series, Taggart, and the Gaidhlig soap opera Machair (CTG co-production). Other successes include What's Up Doc?, the football animation Hurricanes, educational and entertaining shows such as How 2 and Art Attack and classic animation such as Rupert. Programs produced for local transmission include Kirsty, Scotsport, Scotland Today, ScottishWomen, NB, Extra Time, Don't Look Down, Chart Bite, Scottish Passport and The Home Show.

BBC Radio nan Gaidheal, broadcasts forty-five hours of programming each week from its studios in Inverness, Stornoway, Skye and Glasgow. It is the only comprehensive Gaelic radio service in Scotland, producing the program Durachdan, which is followed later in the evening by the invitation from Radio nan Gaidheal to Calthris na h-Oldhche. Saturdays feature a morning of news, culture, entertainment and children's programming while on Sunday a religious service is broadcast followed by a program of contemplative music.
